Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, January 9: The Final Stage of the OneAsia Qualifying School tees-off tomorrow at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club with competitors chasing over 20 OneAsia cards.
Singapore’s rising star Choo Tze Huang, Japan Tour players Masaya Tomida, Akio Sadakata, and Masao Nakajima are just a few of the leading players competing.
Korean Park Sung-heak, who prevailed last week in the First Stage of the OneAsia Qualifying School at Sutera Harbour, and his compatriot Kim Young-il, winner of the First Stage tournament at Palm Resort Golf & Country Club, are part of a strong Korean contingent.
A formidable Australian challenge will be led by Paul Gow, Gavin Flint, Adam Bland, Chris Campbell, Brad Shilton, Paul Spargo, and Kurt Carlson.
Brazilian Lucas Lee and Thailand’s Pravee Visalkit are some of the other hopefuls.
With at least 14 tournaments on OneAsia this season offering an overall purse of nearly US$16 million the stakes are high for the entrants.
A First Stage tournament was also played in Australia in December and saw 17 players earn their places in this week’s draw.
Many will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year’s Qualifying School winner Han Chang-won.
The Korean teenager claimed the Qualifying School by six strokes and went on to finish seventh on the money list with earnings of US$135,078.
The OneAsia season starts with the US$1 million Indonesia Open, to be played from March 15 to 18.
