Renowned tournament expert to further assist in growth of Asia Pacific's professional tournament pathway for elite golfers
Singapore, July 7, 2010: OneAsia today announced the appointment of respected international tournament golf administrator David Parkin as its Director of Tour Operations. Parkin brings with him immense experience in officiating and administrating professional golf tournaments across the globe, with particular expertise in professional Asian tournament golf as a senior golf tour official in the region for almost two decades.
Parkin will join OneAsia on 1 September to further assist in the development of the OneAsia consolidated pathway for the region's leading golfers.
Widely respected and admired for his dedication to Asian golf with the Asian Tour, Parkin has a wealth of understanding across all areas of tour operations. He has also lent his expertise to many of the most prestigious events across the globe, including 13 Major Championships (2 Masters, 2 US Opens, 9 Open Championships) and 5 World Golf Championships, amongst many others.
Following his departure from the Asian Tour in February, Parkin has pursued personal goals, which have included the setting up an academy for rules officials in Asia, a passion which he will further even after joining OneAsia later this year.
"David is one of the most experienced and respected senior golf officials not only across Asia, but across the globe, and his passion for the game is unparalleled," said Mr Sang Y Chun, Chairman & Commissioner, OneAsia. "Through his long professional history in Asian golf, as well as through his personal ventures, David is someone who is committed to promoting and growing the game across Asia."
"David has won the universal respect of players, administrators and tournaments alike, and this appointment is a coup for OneAsia - he is the perfect person to assist in the continued development and growth of OneAsia and we are delighted to welcome David on board."
Said Parkin, "A unified platform like OneAsia has, up till now, been something that's lacking - I believe that a structure like this is necessary for the development of professional golf from a player's perspective, as well as a tournament perspective."
"My focus is and has always been in what lies ahead for Asian golf - I believe that OneAsia is the next step as it has the future of Asian players, sponsors and golf fans at heart. This is why I am really excited to become part of it and to help it grow as best I can. I look forward to joining the team later this year."
Since it was launched last year, OneAsia’s tournament schedule has more than doubled in size, offering a multitude of full-field playing opportunities to leading players across the region. In 2010, OneAsia will stage 11 tournaments for a total of more than US$12 million.
