Kim shares clubhouse lead with Kennedy, Lee and Epstein

Big-hitting Kim Dae-hyun shot a bogey-free 66 to share the clubhouse lead with fellow Korean Lee Seong-ho and Australians Brad Kennedy and Henry Epstein after the early flights in the first round of the SK Telecom Open in Seoul, OneAsia’s fourth event of the year.

The 22-year-old Kim, the Korean Tour’s longest hitter, shot four birdies on the front nine and two on the back to justify his tag as one of the pre-tournament favourites after his stunning victory at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open two weeks ago.

Kennedy, 35, and Lee, 23, both playing in the flight in front of Kim and PGA Tour star Kevin Na (70), both birdied the par-five 18th to shoot 66 and set the early lead.

Epstein, the Hong Kong-born Australian, teed off on 10 and matched six-under by birdieing the par-four ninth, his last hole.

Daegu-based Kim Do-hoon, 21, shot a 67 to finish one shot ahead of 2007 champion Bae Sang-moon, who led for much of the day before a double-bogey on the par-four 16th saw him come home in 68.

Crowd favourite K.J. Choi, the seven-time PGA Tour winner, shot five birdies and three bogeys in an opening 70.
